Biography – Michael A. Walsh

Michael A. Walsh’s first job following college graduation was undoubtedly fate since it charted his entire career. After his graduation from the University of Minnesota Moorhead with a degree in Business, he was hired to be Director of Development for St. Mary’s College High School in Berkeley, California. He was charged with fundraising responsibilities which helped him recognize that fundraising was something for which he was innately skilled. Thus this first job provided both a focus and a foundation for his future business success.

A born entrepreneur, Walsh founded Walsh & Associates in 1984 while living in California. His company specialized in fundraising for private and parochial schools – a focus that continued after he moved his family back to the Minneapolis area in 1987. While his fledgling business began to take form, he supplemented his income by working as a consultant for nine months with a present-day competitor of Walsh & Associates who assigned him his first church capital campaign. He fell in love with that work since he noticed the profoundly positive impact the church campaign had on members of the congregation. As a result he decided to shift his company’s focus to exclusively working with church fundraising efforts.

To this day, for Walsh personally, church fundraising is the most rewarding professional endeavor he has ever been involved with. Walsh & Associates’ specialization in church fundraising has resulted in the development of a consistently successful church fundraising system that repeatedly yields extraordinarily outstanding results for their church clients. It is due to Walsh’s business acumen, his ability to establish replicable systems and his personal faith-based passion to assist churches at the highest level that his company has become one of the premier fundraising companies in the U.S.

In the fall of 2011, Walsh took his company to a new level by launching a franchise offering for entrepreneurs who share Walsh’s heartfelt view of church fundraising work as a calling, not merely a career.

Walsh personally developed the service "success system” utilized today for church capital campaigns. Walsh was born and raised in Fargo, North Dakota, attended the University of North Dakota, and transferred to the University of Minnesota Moorhead where he graduated. He has been married to his wife, Julie, since 1982. They have a daughter, Nicole, who is a University of Minnesota graduate and a son, Jonathan, who is a senior at St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota.

They are members of St. John Neumann Church in Eagan, Minnesota. Walsh recently donated to his own church the entirety of his company’s capital campaign professional fundraising services.

Whenever a church hires Walsh to conduct a capital campaign, together they select the most propitious time to conduct the campaign based on the individual church’s schedule, events and demands.

An average capital campaign usually takes a minimum of 16 to 32 weeks. Often capital campaigns are preceded by a feasibility study which takes four to six weeks from start to finish.

WHERE:

Prayer and spiritual emphasis are central to and part of everything they do. They form a church Prayer Committee when conducting a campaign that develops an overall campaign prayer, relevant weekly prayers and provides other spiritual direction and dimensions throughout the campaign. Each and every campaign meeting and event begins and ends with prayer.
